What & How I Offer

I offer

Dance/movement therapy

Dance/movement therapy, as defined by the American Dance Therapy Association is, “the psychotherapeutic use of movement to promote emotional, social, cognitive and physical integration of the individual”.

Psychotherapy

Being in connection and relationship is fundamental for so many aspects of our lives. How a person achieves a sense of connection and relationship is different from person to person and depends on experiences, memories, cultural contexts, and identities. Psychotherapy is a way to explore wellness and growth in relationship both with oneself and others in a community.

How I offer

I meet you on your path towards healing and well-being. You remain the navigator. My role is to offer invitations to explore. While the therapeutic process is unique for each individual, there are some key components to expect. We will begin by exploring what it is you’re working towards on your healing journey. We will then identify what is needed in the space to create a trusting and safe relationship. While getting to know each other, we will focus on what strengths you are bringing and continue to use these as supports from where you can grow. When working together, we will not just look at the context from one perspective but many and ensure that it fits into all aspects of a your identity.

Together we will discover what skills, strategies, and techniques feel the best fit for you to achieve your goals. I may invite a variety of approaches throughout the process. These may include engaging in mindfulness-based techniques such as deep breathing, guided imagery, and body scans. We may explore ways to access creativity, as a way of problem solving, through as the use of movement based directives. Other times we may use playful movement-based games as a way to engage in creative expression, and because it may just feel good to do so. Together, we may move with guided prompts or just dancing to your favorite song. Along the way we will process how using movement directly relates to your goals in therapy. Moving in this way may or may not be familiar to you- that is okay. I always take a person-centered approach and introduce mindfulness practices and movement opportunities at a pace that follows your process and in collaboration with your readiness.

Throughout the process emotions, memories, and sensations may come up that may be both comfortable and uncomfortable. We will not shy away from any experience and embrace what is present with compassion and care. The intention for our space is to welcome it all and explore together what comes up for you without placing judgement on the experience.
